Tiles of the Northern Plains Tile Conference
Most HTA members should have received the National Tile Conference registration forms. It is a extensive program with many choices. While it is our dream for everyone to participate in the conference, we are realistic. The HTA's main goal is that every member participate in at least some portion of the conference. Whether that is a dinner, a tour, workshop(s) half a program or the whole program, there should be something for everyone and every price range.
Although the conference has been advertised in Ceramics Monthly; the majority of tile conference is also a very big word of mouth program. You as a member have a lot of influence when talking to your friends or to interested parties. There are great opportunities for people to learn how to make tiles, buy tiles, visit great behind the scenes tours and appreciate some awesome tiled architecture. Please spend some time reviewing the conference program so you'll be able to tell people all about the conference and all the cool things to do and see. We hope to see you and your friends there! Click here for the online registration.

Tile Mentor Program Outreach
The 5'x8' mosaic mural "A Place to Grow" represents a welcoming community garden. It was created for the Neighborhood House, located in the Paul and Shelia Wellstone Community Center in the Del Sol Neighborhood of West St. Paul.
The installation came about through COMPAS's ArtsWork, a youth employment program for young artists who are hired during the summer months as Apprentice Artists and are mentored by professional artists. The aspiring artists are ages 14-21. They are hired after applying and completing the interviewed process which includes a portfolio and resume review. For this installation the mentor artist Sharra Frank interviewed approximately 40 artists and selected 10. During the 6 week program, the apprentices worked Monday through Friday from 9:30am-3:00pm, gained vocational skill such as time management and teamwork, and sharpened their social skills and increasing their confidence by interacting with others .
The mosaic will be hung on the 2nd floor in the Neighborhood House during the week of August 7, 2006. A dedication of the piece will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at 2:00pm. Visitors are welcome!

ASID and the HTA
Handmade Tile Association members are now ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Industry Partners. This means that we get reduced rates for advertising our products and services in the 2007 ASID Minnesota Chapter directory. Here is info regarding the rates:
-Deadline is September 15th, 2006
A ¼-page color ad cost $400 and automatically included your company under 2 headings in the Products and Services Directory. For example, a fine furniture company may choose to be listed under Accessories and under Furniture; a bathroom fixtures company may wish to be listed under Plumbing/Fixtures and Accessories. The larger the size ad you place, the more listings you will receive. Should you wish to place a larger size ad. Please contact the PCI for more info on rates.
Toll free 1-800-678-9724 (and then dial 5, then dial 5 again for ASID advertising) (PCI handles all publications & advertising for the ASID). This is a great opportunity because membership alone is $500, and as an HTA member you skip that cost! As an industry partner you are eligible to make presentations of your work in meetings for the ASID.
The HTA will again be sending complimentary Tile Festival entry passes to all MN ASID members. If you would like to volunteer to help do this mailing contact josh@claysquared.com
