Corning Museum of Glass - HOT AND COLD MOSAICS

Summer 2010 - Session 8: August 9 - 14
(one week)

VANESSA SOMERS

Welcome Mosaic Artists and Beginners!

This course is designed to give students confidence in translating their designs into beautiful mosaics. First, they will learn techniques used to create cold Roman mosaics using the reverse method into cement. Then they will learn a new discipline for hot glass mosaics: fusing compatible glass tesserae (made in the class) to create works of art.

No glassworking experience is required.

VANESSA SOMERS

has been creating mosaics for 20 years. Her background includes painting on bullet-proof glass and Lucite laminations. She learned her mosaic method from Professor O. Anselmi of the Vatican Mosaic Studio. Ms. Somers has taught at The Studio, Penland School of Crafts, and the Columbia Museum of Art, and this year will be teaching at the Getty Museum. Her work is in private and corporate collections in the United States and abroad. www.vanessasomers.com
