The Minnesota Art Tile Festival 2007
It is the last two weeks before the tile festival and the final touches are being put in place. The HTA is trying a new venue to advertise the MN Art Tile Festival, Radio advertising. We have purchased 85 ads split between two radio stations The Current 89.3 and AM 950. They will play the week before the tile festival. We picked the two stations to hit two distinct audiences. The Current statistics say that their listeners are most likely to attend art events. AM 950 has a very engaging and active local community supporting audience. We have also taken an ad out in the Blue Green guide that AM 950 produced and is handing out at the MN State Fair. We will be polling people who attend the tile festival as to how they found out about the festival.
Please remember to send out your postcards and e-mail newsletter on the tile festival. There are $1 off coupons at www.handmadetileassociation.org You can also send them there for directions and more info.
Thank you to all the artists and members who helped us with the mailing of over 3500 postcards! Thank you Stephanie Kaczrowski, Norma Hanlon, Leann E. Johnson, Lucy Grantz, David Gardner and daughter, Lucy Yogerst, Chad Fitch and Josh Blanc. We could not have done it with out all these people's help.
Good luck to all the artists showing at the tile festival and thank you for participating and promoting handmade tile and mosaics in the upper Midwest.
Silent auction
The HTA is doing the silent auction this year and we will have a representative around to ask if you would like to donate a tile. The proceeds will go to the general fund of the HTA to support programming.
2008 tile directory
The advertising information for the 2008 directory is now available. Here is the link to get prices and specs. Please note these are the business rates. Artist rates have been e-mailed to the artists. http://www.handmadetileassociation.org/HTAadratepage.htm
We are expecting growth this year based on the calls of interest and longevity of the directory. There are over 140 businesses on our list that have asked to receive information on advertising in the directory. The HTA views this as a testament that the directory is appealing to more than just artists, which in turn will help get our message of great tile resources out to a broader audience.
Ceramics Monthly
The HTA will be taking an ad out in Ceramics Monthly October issue. Ceramics Monthly prints over 30,000 copies per issue and this issue, the Gallery Guide, will have a bonus distribution for the SoFa Show in Chicago.
The HTA did this same Gallery Guide issue two years ago and we received lots of interest for the directory. It will help with our national branding and building our outside membership. We hope that it will also give our artists leads to collectors and galleries.
Jean Drumms House of tile
Thank you to Jean Drumm for opening up her house to show us Mosaic Realm's amazing mosaic backsplash. All in attendance were amazed at the detail and whimsy of the mosaic.
With so many tile artists completing custom tile projects we hopefully will have many more opportunities to take tours in these great homes. If you would like to showcase a project you have done please contact the HTA to set up a tour during a meeting.

American Pottery Festival
Northern Clay Center announces its annual fundraising benefit, the 2007 American Pottery Festival, September 6 – 9, 2007.
This three-day festival celebrates the art of the pot, brings together collectors and artists, and provides much needed resources for NCC. As always, the festival includes an exhibition and sale of pottery by 24 artists, as well as slide talks, demonstration workshops, and lectures. The roster of regional and national potters ranges from well-established potters such as Ron Meyers, Josh DeWeese, and Minnesota’s Warren MacKenzie, to the best of emerging talents, whose work is growing in recognition and increasingly sought by collectors.
