center housed in a turn-of-the-century mansion that was built for Swedish immigrants
Swan & Christina Turnblad. Architectural firm of Christopher A. Boehme & Victor
Cordella. Built 1903-08. Open Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat 12-4 pm, Wed 12-8 pm, Sun
1-5 pm, closed Mondays & holidays. Museum hours are extended in Nov and

Built between 1905 and 1908 for Chester and Clara Congdon. Glensheen is an architectural and decorative arts masterpiece. The Jacobean Revival home was designed by Clarence H. Johnston, with interiors by William A. French and John Bradstreet. The house is a collection of styles, from Colonial Revival and Renaissance Revival to Arts & Crafts and early 20th-century modern. Filled with original furnishings and artwork, Glensheen also boasts a Rookwood-tiled breakfast room, nine tiled fireplaces including Grueby Faience, and much more. Owned and operated by the University of Minnesota Duluth. Open year-round; call or visit the website for days and hours.

National Register of Historical Places lists as architecturally significant as
a refined example of the Late English Gothic Revival style with ornamentation
influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement as well as Scandinavian design tradition.
Built 1915-16. Ornamental tiles at intervals on the exterior, and decorative
tiles on interior nave walls and front floor area.

built 1908. Design modeled after the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. Interior
Byzantine mosaic design based on the interior of the San Marco Cathedral
in Venice. Interior designer Charles Lamb/Lamb Studios, NY. Italian
mosaic artists installed ten million interior mosaic pieces called
tessellate, from marble, colored stone, and glass fused with gold and
silver. Open seven days a week, except Thanks-giving Day & Christmas
Day, 10:00-4:30.
